Vault City Brewing

In the heart of Scotland, Vault City Brewing has become a standout name in the UK craft beer scene. Renowned for their bold and fruity sour beers, they blend traditional brewing methods with modern innovation. Their rapid growth presented them with process challenges to meet increasing demand. This case study highlights how Zomerdijk Engineering contributed to Vault City’s brewing success and operational efficiency.

The Challenge Vault City faced

Vault City was looking for a more automated and reliable packaging line that could keep up with their current demand while also scaling with the brewery’s growing needs. As a relatively new brewery, Vault City had no prior experience in optimizing or automating their packaging processes. We supported them by providing detailed calculations and designs to ensure they received the right solutions tailored to their requirements.

Delivering the Right Machines for the Job

To upgrade Vault City’s packaging line, we installed several machines, and the line is now configured as follows:

We started by installing the Can Depalletizer for automatic infeed. From the depalletizer, the cans enter the Twist Rinser, which transports them onto the conveyor. While being transported, the Twist Rinser cleans the cans from the inside, ensuring there is no debris left in the cans. After filling, the cans are buffered by the Accumulation Conveyor. The purpose of buffering is to give the operator time to switch to labels without needing to stop the entire packaging line. Once the cans are labeled and ready to be packaged, they are sorted in the Semi-Automatic Case Packer, which picks up 24 cans at once and places them in the box, ready for transport.

By integrating these machines, Vault City is now able to meet the demand for their unique beers and accommodate future growth.
