What is a checkweigher?

And how can it improve my filling line

When it comes to the quality of the output of your filling line, you don’t want to take any risks. Ensuring that every package meets your exact specifications is crucial for maintaining product integrity, customer satisfaction, and compliance with industry standards. Implementing a checkweigher into your filling line is a proactive measure to achieve this. It provides real-time monitoring and precise measurements, helping you detect and correct discrepancies before they reach the consumer.

How does the Checkweigher work

After the filled cans or bottles leave the filler, they are transported on a conveyor into the checkweigher. The checkweigher, capable of weighing up to 70 cans or bottles per minute, uses a rotating starwheel to handle each product individually. The starwheel guides the product onto the scale, where its weight is registered. Once weighed, the starwheel rotates the product back onto the conveyor, moving it to the next phase of the packaging line. If the weight of the filled can or bottle is too high or too low, the checkweigher automatically bumps-out the product of the conveyor.

By integrating the checkweigher into your filling line, you will significantly improve the outfeed of your production line and eliminate both underfills and overfills.

Online data access

When the checkweigher is operating, it collects data from every product that is being weighed. This data can be accessed online for data analytics.

Change over time

If you want to fill a different size or type of packaging material, the checkweigher can be quickly adjusted. With the single-mount nut, the starwheel can be changed to accommodate the new packaging size. This changeover can be completed in under one minute.

How the Checkweigher helped Jopen automate

At Jopen Brewery, they were searching for a solution to automate the weight checking of their cans. Before discovering the checkweigher, a full-time operator was manually weighing the cans. This process was not only inefficient but also lacked precision and was highly time-consuming. By implementing the checkweigher, Jopen Brewery significantly improved both accuracy and efficiency, leading to a very short return on investment (ROI).
